Dec 1st Last 2021 First Wednesday

I'd guess The Joint/Caboose will be the get together place at the usual 7-8pm time frame - unless I get a notice of change, that I will of course post ASAP.

Looks like temps will be about 50 in late Wed afternoon. Time for one last ride before last oil change, brake/clutch fluid change, hit all grease fittings with a squirt, change tire summer to winter air, run cords for battery charging, cover FJR with Silk and BMW's with wool robes.

If you have First Wednesday sites to suggest send them to Treasure and/or Secretary at Westbankmc.org

Not too early to start discussion of club officer nominations and any other things that should be brought up at next years meetings.

Add to your calendar: Last Saturday of March for the Road Captain/20 Riders meeting and first Saturday of April for the General Membership meeting; Both starting close to noon and both at The Joint (unless there is a change).   ℋ

Renee Eck ~ R.I.P.

It’s with great sadness that Renee, my wife of 12 yrs., together for 28, has passed away due to medical complications.

She was a member of the club from 2006 - 2013 when she found out she had degenerative disc which made it unable for her to ride.

I will miss her dearly but I know she is in a much better place; she no longer has to suffer and is now at peace.

There are no funeral plans at this time.

2021.06.12 Garden Pub & Grille, Pepin Wisconsin  RC: Jim M.

        Ride Report by Jim Morin.

The temperatures were tolerable with low humidity. 13 West Bankers departed the Joint for the Garden Pub & Grille in Pepin Wisconsin. One person met us at the destination.

The ride was about as close to 100 miles as possible. We wiggled and bobbed through the Wisconsin countryside with a butt stop at 70 miles in Bay City. I was asked, "When will we get to Pepin?".

Only one U turn for a missed turn. Picked up 3 HDs at the u-turn that stayed with us until we made the next road change.

We arrived at the Garden Pub & Grille just before 3:00. This was a new destination for the club and I believe deserves a repeat.

  First Club Rides 2021

First two rides are out of the way. They were both very nice rides with a little dampness on the first, warmer for the second and with HOT (86) expected for the third.

I had my first close to a close call when the lady I had allowed myself to be stuck behind for too long (ya, my fault but it was St. Paul residential) decided to do a panic stop at a crosswalk when a long legged strider quick walked into the crosswalk.

I was a bit too close as I was going to go around after the intersection so me and the three behind me would connect back into the pack. Looks like old age hasn't slowed my reactions and the FJR brakes and front tire were also a big help. Yup; even at 35mph. Stopped with an inch to spare between right sidewall of front of my front tire and car rear left dirty fender.

It's been many, many years since I've had to hit the brakes that fast and hard (well, semi-hard). Well season is early - I hope this is the only time this comes up but I'm keeping my eyes open and brake lever covered just in case.

Looks like things have settled down around the West Bank area and are quiet so rides will be leaving from The Joint/Caboose again; Unless noted on the Ride Schedule.   ℋ

First 2021 Club Ride April 24th

The first ride will leave from Route 47 Pub & Grub   about noon as usual - right.

As discuss at the General Meeting the next couple of rides will also leave from Route 47 Pub & Grub but if that changes a notice will be put out or it will be obvious from the Ride Schedule Note.

For those not at the meeting the reason is due to safety in light of the unknown of the trial outcome.

So keep an eye on the Ride Schedule, this Web Page or get started on the Discussion Forum to stay up to date on changes.

Like last year, and past years, it's a bring something to share at Mark's place. Looks to be a chili cook-off contest again.     ℋ

  General Membership meeting April 10th

The General Membership meeting will be held at Route 47 Pub & Grub   noonish start.

The Road Captain/20 Riders meeting at The Joint/Caboose had a very good turn out. Plenty of room at the Caboose and the breakfast steak was very good.

Turn out was somewhere around 25 or so with 16 members on the roster as of 3/31.

Larry Stitzel ~ R.I.P.

Sad news from Pat Meisner (formerly Stitzel):

Long-time West Bank Motorcycle Club member and my ex-husband, Larry Stitzel, passed away from cancer today, March 16, 2021. He would've been 82 in April.

He was diagnosed with stomach cancer last year--a cancer that has a very low chance of survival. He had done chemo and other treatment; but by November, the cancer had progressed to the point the doctors could do nothing more for him, so he went home (rather than to a nursing home) to live out the rest of his life.

Things went downhill the first week of March, and he was moved to a hospice last Wednesday.

My daughters said they had a pleasant visit yesterday; he had been mostly sleeping and not talking, but had responded nonverbally to them as they talked to him about the Twins and other things in the paper.

This morning, he had similarly responded to staff; but when they checked on him again shortly after noon, he had passed ...it seems to have been a peaceful passing. He had lived at home much longer than originally thought, and then a week in hospice was also longer than expected.

He will be cremated, and the girls have discussed having a memorial later this spring or summer, when it's easier to get people together.

Your prayers and thoughts of condolence for my girls will be appreciated. He is their stepfather, and the only father they have ever known.

He is also survived by younger son James and his family in Texas, and older son Danny, who was born on Larry's 20th birthday.

As for me--he and I had only rarely talked the past few years, usually at a grand-kid's birthday dinner.

I'll have my memories of motorcycle trips with Larry, and family stories.

I said goodbye to him a long time ago, and now he's without any more pain and at peace.

FYI: Larry Stitzel had been with the club continuously since 1976, only one year less than Harry "The Hat" Strand. Larry made 20 or more rides for the first 41 of those years. According to our records his ride count stands at 1016 over his 42 years with the WBMC.

March 3rd 1st Wednesday at Joint

Looks like temp's will be 40+ during day but snow will still cover much of the ground for a while but quickly melting.

I'd guess The Joint/Caboose will be the get together place with somewhere in the 6-8pm time frame for most of us (they are forced to close at 10:00pm). They are operating out of the Caboose so enter through the Caboose entrance.

Time to (again) start discussion of club officer nominations and any other things that should be brought up at the meetings at the end of this month and the first Saturday of next month. See Events page.

Add to your calendar: Last Saturday of March for the Road Captain/20 Riders meeting and first Saturday of April for the General Membership meeting; Both starting by noon and both at The Joint (unless there is a change).

Hope those that wanted CoVid shots got them or are on, or close to getting on the list, to get the shots soon. I (harald) just got call from VA and got called in for 1st shot on 8th Mar and next on 29th Mar. Fingers crossed there are no or minor side effects.

Remember to to get your bike road ready with new oil, brake fluid change, antifreeze/coolant check/change and battery check/charge/change. And of course a tire check.

Long time West Bank Motorcycle Club member Jac Kelvie has passed away on Jan 9th, 2021

Jac Kelvie ~ R.I.P. Jac Kelvie ~ R.I.P.

  Jac Kelvie Obituary

Known for many things but maybe best remembered by his motorcycle friends in the last decade or three for riding smaller bikes, from mopeds, 125's to 250's on club rides to his coffee run rides to as far away as Duluth, Redwing and farther, like into Canada?.

There was Milwaukee for a meet where he got a trophy for being on smallest bike to make the trip; and then there was Sturgis on his moped.

That Sturgis ride was in 2005 on a moped. The trip took 47 hours, covered 536 miles at a blazing full throttle top speed sometimes hitting a tire blistering 25MPH (maybe 32MPH downhill if the wind was from the hindquarters - details varied.)

  First full week of 2021

Can't believe the first week of 2021 got dirtier than the bottom of my oil leak'n '83 XLH after a 100 mile high speed ride down a freshly tarred dirt road.

Lets all stay calm. Too much misinformation being swallowed without proof. Keep out of the line of fire.

I'm so looking forward to 2025. Hope I'm correct that it will be better.

One bit of good news I heard is that on Jan 11th the Joint is opening to somewhat normal operation. Keep checking their FB page to see about changes.

Just looked at FB and there are no updates but the open time indicates they are open 3pm to 10pm on Jan 13th (that's as I'm posting this...}.

2020 about to/has been closed out

Hope everyone is healthy and got all they wished for this holiday.

Happy New Year to everyone. Stay Healthy.

Depending on CoVid Rules on Wed, Jan 6th there may be a First Wednesday at the Joint

I'm so looking forward to 2025. Hope I'm correct that it will be better.

Heck - I'm hoping 2021 will be better for us average folks. Looking forward to persons with brains containing common sense can replace those in the government real soon [Oh Ya - and they be HONEST above all.

For those few looking to the web site for 2021 information on meeting, rides, last years rides and events photos - Well; what can I say. I've been distracted and lazy.

I'll be getting to it soon. I know I started the 2021 templates some time ago while again waiting for input of a line or two or a couple paragraphs from the membership. Did get a couple of photos but only a couple.

Unless someone has something they want me to post this is it for the 2020 postings. Time to relax and see what Jan 20th brings...

I think I'll forgo looking at any news the week before and after. I'll also make sure my bang bang's and boom booms are clean and oiled...

2020 Year End Party was Great

Last official club ride was a couple of weeks ago and WINTER seems to have set in faster than usual, for me anyway. Could be because of this CoVid thing or the election - maybe.

Long range forecaster is guessing low 50's first week of November but with low 30's at night I'd say there will be ice on corners and in shade areas. You'all be very careful when you get that 'last ride' of the year.

On to the Year End. There were about 25 members and guests for the 2020 Year End Party. Not bad for a chilly evening shortly after the first real snow fall just a couple of days previous.

No one mentioned sighting any motorcycles showing up. Hard to believe. Once the fire was started the close up gathering around the fire seemed appropriate... (?) [Ya, ya - social distancing, masking... at least no protesting, rioting - right...]

Nice to have a large garage to hold everyone where they could keep warm and chow down on Jeannine's gathered/prepared food along with member shared food. Then came the awards presentations to round out the 2020 official doings and continue with the Party around the fire and within the warm garage.

Here's a rundown on the Awards.

  • High Mileage:
    • 1st:   Mark Cady: 11,760
    • 2nd: Jim Morin:    11,350
    • 3rd:  Kevin Grube: 8,220
  • Most Rides:
    • 1st:  Kevin Grube: 40
    • 2nd: Mike Brier: 39
    • 3rd:  Carrie Cook-Brier & Mark Cady: 38
  • Patches:
    • Amy Thomas & Clay Gordon: 200 Ride
    • Harald: 500 Ride

Scarfy will be mailing out 2020 year patches soon.

Note from Jeannine & Chris

Thank you to those that made it to the Year End Party, and to those that brought something to share.
We hope you had fun and enjoyed yourselves. To those that were not able to attend, you were missed.

We appreciated hosting! Please stay safe and healthy! Can't wait to see you again!
Chris & Jeannine
